Signs your water heater needs attention
- No hot water, or hot water that runs out faster than it used to
- Water pooling around the base of the tank
- Rusty or discoloured hot water
- Rumbling, popping or banging from the tank
- A pilot light that won't stay lit
- A tank that's more than about 10 years old
Repair or replace?
Many problems, like a faulty thermocouple, gas valve or element, can be repaired. But a leaking tank can't be fixed. Once the tank itself is leaking, it needs to be replaced. Most tank-style water heaters last roughly 8–12 years. If yours is near that range and needs a major repair, replacement is often the better investment. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Hot water tanks
We supply and install standard and high-efficiency gas hot water tanks. We'll size the new tank for your household, not just match whatever was there before. If your family has grown and you're running out of hot water, a larger or faster-recovering tank may solve the problem.
Tankless water heaters
A tankless (on-demand) water heater heats water only when you need it, so you get endless hot water and don't pay to keep a full tank hot around the clock. It also frees up floor space in your mechanical room.
Switching from a tank to tankless usually involves more than a simple swap. The unit may need a larger gas line, new venting and a condensate drain. We'll assess your home and tell you exactly what the upgrade involves before you commit. Tankless units also need periodic flushing to stay efficient, and we can service them for you.
